Overview
The Chainway MC80 UHF is among the first 5G handheld terminals to integrate UHF | RAIN - RFID directly at chip level. The RFID engine sits inside the Qualcomm chipset platform, so the device needs no external reader module and stays at a slim 15.5 mm and 283 g. That makes the MC80 a full mobile computer and a UHF handheld reader in one housing: light enough for a complete shift, flat enough for a trouser pocket. Companies that previously had to choose between a smartphone-class mobile terminal and a dedicated handheld RFID device get both capture technologies in a single RFID mobile terminal, managed like any other Android device in the fleet.
The reader supports EPC Class1 Gen2 / ISO 18000-63 and works with the established RAIN RFID infrastructure. On the computing side, the MC80 runs Android 16 with an upgrade path to Android 20, on a Qualcomm octa-core processor with up to 2.9 GHz and up to 6 TOPS of AI performance for on-device image and data processing. The 6-inch HD+ display (optional FHD+) sits behind Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and accepts input with gloves and wet hands. Connectivity covers 5G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 7 with 2x2 MIMO and fast roaming, Bluetooth 6.0 and full GNSS support (GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS). The cellular bands span both the European and the American network layouts, so one hardware variant remains deployable across international sites.
Beyond UHF, the MC80 reads HF | NFC at 13.56 MHz (ISO 14443 A/B, ISO 15693) including SoftPOS support, and can be configured with 2D barcode engines from Zebra's SE series (SE4710, SE4720, SE4770, SE55) or the CM60. A 50 MP camera with PDAF and HDR documents damage or delivery states; optional UWB adds centimeter-level indoor positioning. Power comes from a 5,000 mAh slim or 8,000 mAh extended battery with hot-swap capability and QC 4.0 / PD 3.0 fast charging. Pistol grip, charging cradles and a docking station are available as accessories, so the device scales from pocket terminal to scan-intensive picking workstation.
The housing survives 1.5 m drops per MIL-STD-810H (2.0 m with the rugged boot) and 2,000 tumbles from 0.5 m, and is available with IP65 or IP67 sealing. The operating range of -20 °C to +50 °C covers cold storage and outdoor use. Typical applications are retail inventory, warehouse logistics, asset management, medical supply tracking and industrial automation. As a vendor-independent distributor, IDCRAFT GmbH helps you evaluate the MC80 UHF against alternative handheld RFID devices, defines the right configuration (memory, barcode engine, battery, sealing) and supplies matching UHF transponders.
