Standard RFID tags often fall short when projects demand unique form factors, specialized mounting solutions, or quantities too small for injection molding. The IDCRAFT 3DTag solves this challenge: a 3D-printed RFID transponder available in both UHF | RAIN and HF | NFC variants, manufactured using the FDM 3D printing process. Each 3DTag is designed, printed, tested, and encoded in-house — delivering a fully customized industrial RFID tag from a single source.

Overview

Standard RFID tags often fall short when projects demand unique form factors, specialized mounting solutions, or quantities too small for injection molding. The IDCRAFT 3DTag solves this challenge: a 3D-printed RFID transponder available in both UHF | RAIN and HF | NFC variants, manufactured using the FDM 3D printing process. Each 3DTag is designed, printed, tested, and encoded in-house — delivering a fully customized industrial RFID tag from a single source.

How the 3DTag Is Made

The 3DTag is produced using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), where thermoplastic filament is heated and deposited layer by layer. At a precisely defined point during the print, the RFID inlay — consisting of chip and antenna — is placed into the enclosure and then fully sealed by subsequent layers. The result is a robust, fully enclosed RFID transponder ready for immediate deployment. Because no molds or tooling are required, the 3DTag is economically viable even for prototypes, pilot runs, and small to medium production batches. Current production capacity for a standard 3DTag is approximately 200 units per day.

Available Frequencies and Chips

The 3DTag supports both major RFID frequency ranges:

  • UHF | RAIN RFID (860–960 MHz, EPC Gen2): Designed for applications requiring read ranges of several meters, such as asset tracking, industrial logistics, tool management, and container identification. Standard chip options include NXP UCODE 9 and Alien Higgs 10.
  • HF | NFC RFID (13.56 MHz, ISO 14443 / ISO 15693): Ideal for access control, machine identification, maintenance documentation, and smartphone-based NFC interaction. Standard chip options include NXP ICODE SLIX and NTAG213.

Additional chip types can be integrated on a project basis. IDCRAFT advises on selecting the optimal RFID chip for each application.

Industrial-Grade Enclosure Options

The 3DTag is available in both standard enclosures and fully custom form factors. Standard enclosures cover common industrial mounting scenarios and are available at short lead times. Custom enclosures are developed based on customer specifications or produced directly from supplied 3D print files. Enclosure materials include PLA for indoor environments and ABS for outdoor and industrial use. High-performance materials rated for temperatures up to 200 °C are currently in development. Both off-metal and on-metal variants are available, with mounting options such as M5 threads and cable tie loops integrated directly into the enclosure design.

Labeling and Personalization

Every 3DTag can be individually personalized. Physical labeling options include serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes, and company logos, applied via laser engraving or durable adhesive labels. On the electronic side, each RFID transponder is encoded with EPC data, UID, or application-specific user memory content. Every 3DTag ships fully encoded and ready for deployment.

Why Choose the IDCRAFT RFID 3DTag?

Many industrial RFID projects require transponder solutions that go beyond what off-the-shelf tags can deliver. The 3DTag combines the design freedom of 3D printing with professional RFID integration — from inlay selection and range testing to encoding and personalization. IDCRAFT provides the complete service chain: transponder design, inlay selection, 3D printing, quality testing, and encoding — all from a single source. As a specialized RFID and NFC distributor, IDCRAFT brings deep technical expertise to every project, helping companies implement custom RFID tag solutions without building their own development resources.
